Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Presents Recoginition Award to MEC

Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports presented a recognition award to the Mayville Engineering Company (MEC), recognizing it's contributions to the 2009 Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Reloading Program.

Ohio is one of only a few states to offer reloading to 4-H shooting sports participants at the grass roots level in the county clubs. In February of 2009, Ohio held a NRA based training for new instructors. MEC's donations allowed the program to go on as Ohio had a need for additional dies and parts in order to repiar existing equipemnt.

"We couldn't have done this without MEC's support and assistance. Their generous donation prevented us from spending much needed funds on costly repairs and replacement parts," said Larry Harris, Ohio's Shooting Sports Coordinator. "We hope to partner with them for many years to come. We feel that due to the high price and lack of availability of ammunition, shooters need an alternative. Many attempt reloading without formal training. We feel that with proper guidance and training at the youth level, we are providing a much safer environment".

Ohio has an active 4-H shooting sports program in 86 of its 88 counties. "Reloading teaches many academic life skills, such as math, science, physics and chemistry", said Tom Johnston, Ohio's pistol coordinator. "It also teaches life skills such as responsibility, leadership and promotes working together in a team environment. Students shoot their own ammunition in our program, so not only do they get to have fun reloading, but there is shooting at the end of the day. That ties it all together in full circle."
